
Amaretto French Toast

Instructions
Prepare the Custard

Arrange bread
Arrange bread slices in a 13- x 9-inch baking dish.

Make custard mixture
Whisk together eggs, milk, brown sugar, almond extract, nutmeg, and, if desired, almond liqueur.

Soak bread
Pour custard mixture over bread. Let stand 5 minutes, turning once.

Chill overnight (optional)
Cover and chill 8 hours, if desired, for make-ahead convenience.
Bake the French Toast

Preheat and prepare pan
Melt butter at 400°F in a 15- x 10-inch jellyroll pan; add French bread slices.

First bake
Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes.

Turn and finish baking
Turn slices and bake 8 to 10 more minutes or until golden.

Garnish and serve
Sprinkle with toasted almonds and powdered sugar. Serve with warmed maple syrup.
