Instructions
Prepare the Shrimp
- 1
Clean and dry shrimp
Clean and dry the shrimp thoroughly with paper towels.
- 2
Set up breading station
Set up three shallow bowls: add flour, pepper, and salt to one bowl; egg to another bowl; and breadcrumbs to the third bowl.
- 3
Bread the shrimp
Coat each shrimp in flour, then dip it in the egg mixture, then coat it with breadcrumbs. Bread all the shrimp this way.
Air Fry the Shrimp
- 1
Preheat air fryer
Preheat air fryer to 400°F for 3-5 minutes.
- 2
Prepare basket
Lightly spray air fryer basket with oil and place shrimp in the basket, leaving air space between each piece. Lightly spray the tops of the shrimp.
- 3
Cook first side
Cook small batches for 3 minutes.
- 4
Flip and finish cooking
Flip shrimp over and cook for an additional 3 minutes. Large shrimp may need more time.
Make the Sauce and Serve
- 1
Mix sauce
Mix the mayonnaise, sweet Thai chili sauce, Sriracha, and honey together in a bowl.
- 2
Toss with sauce
Once shrimp are cooked and cooled slightly, toss the shrimp in a bowl with the sauce to fully coat. Cooling slightly helps retain the crispy exterior.
Cook's Notes
The first time I tried Bang Bang Shrimp was at Bonefish Grill. It's a pretty famous shrimp appetizer that has sparked the "bang bang" revolution. Wait for the shrimp to cool slightly before tossing with the sauce to retain the crispy exterior.
